Arthouse is having a 15th birthday celebration and you are invited!

Arthouse is an arts-based charitable organization in Halton, supporting young people seven to seventeen years of age, who have no access to any extra-curricular activities.

Don Pangman, founder of Arthouse, explained, “How do we reach our most vulnerable young people? Arthouse has a 15-year history of supporting children and youth. Our goal is to help them unleash their creativity and build their confidence, resilience, empathy, attitude, teamwork and engagement skills to help them ‘survive’ in a fast-changing world.”

He added, “Our programs teach them to be adaptable, curious, flexible, responsible, to be ready to take risk and have a tolerance for failure. They learn about loyalty, honesty, reliability and perseverance through our free programming.”

Arthouse 15th birthday celebration is on Thursday October 17.

At 7 p.m., famed Galician Celtic music multi-instrumentalist, Carlos Nunez and his band, will take to the stage at Appleby College’s John Bell Chapel. The show will also feature the Arthouse and Appleby Youth Chorus, the Halton Police Services Pipe Band and other Celtic surprises. There will be a post-concert reception as well, to finish off the celebration.

“Carlos Nunez is truly one of the world’s foremost musicians!” exclaimed Pangman. “We have a long history with him, and he is one of the finest performers I have ever had the pleasure to work with. His music is incredible…he was practically raised by The Chieftains…this concert will be the musical event of the year here, believe me!”

Nunez is the world’s most famous player of the gaita, the bagpipes of Galicia, Spain’s northwest, Atlantic Ocean-abutting region, rich in vibrant, expressive Celtic traditional music. “Not necessarily what you would think of, when you think of a Spanish musician!” said Pangman.

But, like the Chieftains, who became Ireland’s foremost ambassadors of Irish traditional music by spreading its appeal internationally, Carlos Núñez has become Galicia’s foremost traditional music ambassador by doing the very same.

“We are so excited to be working with Carlos again and having this phenomenal musician here to make our 15th birthday celebration a true, over-the-top evening to remember,” said Pangman. “We want to invite everyone to come out for the best night of the year and help us celebrate!
