Get ready Oakville! The 2024 motionball Marathon of Sport is coming your way on September 28!
This exciting day of sport, inclusivity, and movement will raise funds for Special Olympics Canada while ensuring everyone participating will have an amazing day having fun together.
“This 3rd annual event will bring together 16 teams of Oakville residents, local businesses and Special Olympics athletes to play alongside each other for another amazing day of inclusive sport, friendship and fun!” explained motionball spokesperson Erin Heidecker.
She added, “Most importantly, participants have the chance to be a part of this unique community engagement opportunity and to meet and befriend the proud Special Olympics athletes whom motionball supports.”
The 2024 Marathon of Sport Oakville, presented by Longo’s, will take place on Saturday, September 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Appleby College.
Each team of ten will be joined by one or two Special Olympics athletes and will then participate in a variety of sports and activities throughout the day, including soccer, football, ultimate, bocce, giant pong and benchball.“
Each team, while having fun throughout the day, will also raise funds and awareness in support of the Special Olympics Canada Foundation. It’s a win for everyone,” explained Heidecker. “The goal for this year’s Oakville event is to raise $40,000.”
Community members can donate to Special Olympics here, even after the event has concluded.
This special event has more than a monetary, goal however.
Heidecker continued, “The motionball Marathon of Sport not only brings awareness to the Special Olympics movement but also allows people with and without intellectual disabilities to interact, build lifelong friendships, and ultimately create more inclusive communities.”
She paused, then finished, “The funds raised through this year’s motionball Marathon of Sport will ensure Special Olympics athletes have the resources to stay active and compete in the sports they love on a national and international level. Let’s get together Oakville, and support this very special event!”
