Oakville Festivals of Films and Art (OFFA) is presenting several films virtually this year, as part of the 2024 Oakville Film Festival.

“We have four full-length films available virtually, as well as two groupings of 11 and 12 short films, this year,” said OFFA Executive Director, Wendy Donnan. “The short films are catalogued respectively, as Slice of Life, and Drama and Thrills.”

Full length virtual film offerings are Analogue Revolution: How Feminist Media Changed the World; Girasoli; The Goat; and On The Fringe.

“Analogue Revolution is a full-length documentary on Canadian feminist storytellers from the 70’s to the 90’s, and how they used media to document the issues of the day,” explained Donnan. “It’s a really in-depth look at those incredible women in that time, ending with a look at where things are today. A great film.”

Girasoli tells the story of Lucia and Anna, both prisoners in an asylum in Italy in the 1960’s.

Donnan said, “It’s a romance, a drama, and it comes to us from Italy. Their relationship and the character of the doctor who tries to save Anna…so poignant, so moving. This is a must-see.”

The Arabic-Italian drama The Goat stars young Egyptian TikTok star Jessica Hosam as an 11-year-old pregnant orphan named Hadya who, after being forced into marriage, becomes the target of a western corporation that seeks to control the only water source in her village. She escapes into the desert with her goat on a journey in search of her father.

The final virtual film full-length offering this year is On The Fringe. “This is another wonderful Canadian offering, following a group of performing artists as they journey across our country to perform their work, on the Canadian Fringe Festival circuit,’ said Donnan. “We get a firsthand view of this trip of a lifetime, through four different groups of artists, and get to experience their highs, their lows, laughter, triumphs, failures…it’s got it all. A wonderful glimpse into the people and places of that experience.”

All virtual films at the Oakville Film Festival are available to view for the entirety of the festival, from June 19 to June 28. “Once you buy your ticket, you have 48 hours to access the film,” explained Donnan. “There is tech support, and there are virtual Q and A sessions as well.”

The Oakville Film Festival virtual film festival offerings are just another way for people to access programming and films that just are not available in Oakville at other times. “We are very proud of all of our film offerings this year,” said Donnan. “We are so pleased to have virtual offerings as well, to increase accessibility for all our patrons.”
