Teachers ready to be at the Front of the Class

Halton District School Board secondary visual art teachers are ready to apply the very skills they teach their students with the launch of the annual Front of the Class art exhibit.

Approximately two-dozen teachers will showcase their artwork during a five-week art show at Oakville Town Hall (1225 Trafalgar Rd) from April 21 until May 28, 2015. It’s free for visitors to attend during Town Hall opening hours. More than 50 pieces will be in the show, displaying a wide variety of mediums, subject matter and styles.

Hosted by ArtWorks Oakville, an opening reception will take place on April 30 beginning at 7 p.m., where people can meet with the teacher artists who are usually busy teaching students the skills of making art. Some of the works will be available for purchase. ArtWorks is an incorporated, non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to promoting and showcasing visual artists at several public spaces in Oakville.

“Front of the Class provides a wonderful opportunity for teachers to showcase their art and connect not only with one another, but with the wider community,” explains White Oaks Secondary School teacher and co-organizer Christina Annis.~“It’s a chance for us to shift focus, from teaching to creating.”
