An Uber driver was charged with one count of sexual assault on July 3, 2017. The incident occurred Oakville, Ontario.

In June, 2017, the Halton Regional Police Service Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit investigated an incident of an alleged sexual assault by an Uber driver in Oakville. The incident occurred during the trip. The victim in this matter was a young female passenger, under the age of 18.

As a result of the investigation, Ansar ALI, 33 years, of Toronto was arrested on Monday, July 3, 2017 and charged with 1 count of sexual assault and breach of probation.

Police Safety Tip for Uber Riders

Police recommend that riders let someone know when they will be taking a ride with any company indicating when they are picked up, how long the trip is anticipated to take, and then recontact the person when they arrive safely at their destination.
