This year marks a milestone achievement for your United Way. Announced at the annual Evening of Celebration for United Way Halton and Hamilton (UWHH), supporters, donors, community members and the countless volunteers who worked tirelessly over the last year to help UWHH with their community impact efforts, rallied together to celebrate a record fundraising goal.

Investments will be made into local programs that address some of our most unigornable issues such as poverty, domestic violence, education inequality, senior isolation and mental illness. Today is a true demonstration of how incredible community citizens stand united for the greater good and can drive meaningful change.

The celebration was captured on April 3, 2019 at the Burlington Convention Centre, where over 600 attendees gathered; community leaders, labour partners, supportive companies, and committed non-profit agencies from across the region came together to recognize the conclusion of United Way’s annual campaign, which launched last September.

Chris Mei, anchor at the Weather Network, emceed while UWHH President and CEO Brad Park, Anne Bermingham, Chair of the United Way Board of Directors, and Campaign Chair Sean O’Brien presented, thanking community supporters and the business community for their continued commitment in improving lives locally.

At the close of the evening, United Way unveiled results of this year’s campaign, which surpassed last year’s goal. In total, a record $10,875,000 was raised by committed supporters, marking a milestone for UWHH and the community.

“Words cannot express our gratitude towards all the donors and business communities of Burlington, Halton Hills, Hamilton, Milton and Oakville who continue to give back and provide support for life changing agencies in our region,” said Brad Park, President and CEO of United Way. “Communities thrive and prosper because of their residents’ commitment. United Way and its partner agencies will forever be grateful for all your support.”

These funds will go directly to community agencies to help change lives for the better while building stronger communities.

“This year’s campaign was a tremendous success. I am so pleased with everyone’s hard work, compassion and determination,” said Anne Bermingham, Chair of the United Way Halton and Hamilton Board of Directors. “Together, we will be improving lives locally, as a result of this year’s campaign.”

Over 80 community agencies that support three areas of focus: All That Kids Can Be, Healthy People, Strong Communities and Poverty to Possibility, will benefit this year and continue to provide essential services.

The success of this year’s milestone campaign starts at the grassroots level.

“We wouldn’t let the unignorable social issues in our communities’ just pass by without working diligently to correct them,” said Sean O’Brien, UWHH Cabinet Chair. “This year clearly demonstrates the support we have from all levels within our communities, and it’s this support that will help over 200,000 people.”
