One factor that parents consider when purchasing a home is the quality of neighbouring high schools. Where do they rank? However, there is always more to consider than an institutional ranking and White Oaks Secondary School (WOSS) is a great example.

The Fraser Institute ranked White Oaks as the fourth best secondary school in Oakville. The top school being Oakville Trafalgar. White Oaks ranked as the 32nd best school in Ontario. The total number of secondary (catholic and public) schools ranked was 738.

Another factor to seriously consider are the accomplishments of the students. Let’s take a look at the accomplishments of White Oaks Secondary School students during the past year:

1) Three White Oaks Students achieved perfect scores on the International Baccalaureate exam. There were only 13 students in the America’s that achieved perfect scores.

2) At the Bay Area Science and Engineering Fair in Hamilton, White Oaks grade 9 student Sabrina Mogus won the Best-In-Fair award for her project ‘Need some TLC? Tigernut Liquid Cagulant: An undiscovered biocoagulant for water turbidity reduction.’ Also, her work received the award for Best High School Project. Sabrina was among four high school students selected to present at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, Arizona.

3) On June 7, 2019 Halton District School Board announced the achievements of:

  1. Abby Robitaille
  2. Alex Wu
  3. Alice Chen
  4. Angie Lei
  5. Maza Algodi

Alice Chen achieved two outstanding results. In the French portion of the Canadian National debate championship at Montreal’s Lower Canada College she captured top speaker . Alice also placed in the National Impromptu Concours Oratoire in Ottawa.

The National Finals in debate took place from May 24th to May 26th. Chen and fellow White Oaks Secondary School student Abby Robitaille placed first as the top French team in Canada. In the finals Chen placed first and Robitaille second.

In the Junior English portion of the debate competition, WOSS student Angie Lei won the John Robinson Trophy as the top Grade 9 speaker in Canada.

On June 1st, Grade 11 WOSS student Alex Wu placed second (Francophones) and Grade 11 WOSS student Hamza Algodi placed third (Core French) at the National Level Concours Oratoire (French public-speaking event).

White Oaks Secondary School may rank as the 32nd top Ontario school by the Fraser Institute, which incredible in it self. However, looking at the results of their students – parents would be hard pressed to find a better school.
