The Ontario government signed off on the Wyecroft Road Extension this week. It is the last step, and soon tenders will be issued by the Region.

“This is a true commitment to make the movement of people and goods within the Region more effective and efficient for residents and business,” stated Mayor Burton

Also, The Wyecroft Road Extension platform earned Sean O’Meara his seat on town council in 2014. Since then, his constant advocacy for the extension kept the project front and centre.

Currently, Wyecroft Road East and West ends at Bronte Creek. The only routes crossing Bronte Creek are:

  1. Dundas Street
  2. QEW/403
  3. Rebecca Street
  4. Lakeshore Road West

The Wyecroft Road Extension Project would connect both sides of Wyecroft Road via a bridge over Bronte Creek. The road extension and bridge would include a mixed-use path for active transportation.

The increased growth in Halton creates congestion on the roadways crossing Bronte Creek. Now, an accident or road construction grinds traffic to a halt. It causes serious headaches for both commuters and business. The Wyecroft Road Extension will help to ease the situation.

“Building the Wyecroft Road Extension has a range of benefits that connects municipalities in Halton Region and is a vital step in creating an effective regional transportation network,” said Oakville MPP Stephen Crawford.

Wyecroft Road Extension Benefits

  1. Easier access to the regions GO stations
  2. Commuters will spend less time getting to their GO train
  3. Reduces congestion on local roads as well as the QEW
  4. Gives buses in Oakville and Burlington a more direct route to Bronte and Appleby GO stations
  5. Increases efficiency for people who rely on transit in this area

“The Wyecroft Road Extension and Bridge Project will enhance the mobility options to the residents of Halton by providing critical east-west connectivity over Bronte Creek between the City of Burlington and the Town of Oakville,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr.

“This investment in infrastructure that will allow residents, businesses, cyclists, transit users, pedestrians, first responders and motorists to experience an immediate benefit from a multi-modal connective corridor,” continued Mr. Carr.

Drew Redden the President Oakville Chamber of Commerce congratulated all those who moved this transportation infrastructure project forward.

“In a recent advocacy survey with our members 75 per cent of respondents stated that congestion on Oakville Roads is a barrier to their businesses,” continued Mr. Redden.

A Wyecroft Road that bridges Bronte Creek is great news for residents and businesses.

    “Speers Road”

…oops that’s a misprint. Should say “Rebecca Street”.

I am glad that our current provincial government has agreed to allocate money that was put into a fund by our previous government. Hooray for the heroes, not de-funding something that the Liberal government saved up for.
