Oakville News received the following Letter to the Editor from reader Robert Pocock in response to Crashes involving transport trucks make up 20% of fatal incidents: OPP

I spent my entire career in the transport truck industry, not driving, but handling sales to major fleets. The majority of these drivers are trained and drive current vehicles that are maintained, as the Ministry of Transportation will take them off the road.

These bigger vehicles are in excess of $100,000.

Do you really think they are out on the road trying to create havoc? Times have changed and speeds have increased. So have trailer lengths and weight carrying capacities.

There will always be a percentage of poor drivers regardless of what size vehicle.

How many times have I seen cars cut in front of them just to gain one space? These vehicles are carrying between 80,000-140,000 lbs and we expect them to stop on a dime.

I have no idea if the percentages reported here are right or not. How many pedestrians and bike riders are involved in car accidents? We need to be fair when reporting. My personal opinion.
