Oakville's Acclaim Health is expanding its Technology Accessibility Program (TAP) thanks to a $161,900 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
The announcement was celebrated at their Tech Café event in Oakville last week, where Oakville MPP Stephen Crawford praised the program’s impact on bridging the digital divide for older adults.
On Oct. 17, 2024, Acclaim Health hosted their Tech Café event at Patty’s Place in Oakville.
During the event, the team met with Crawford to celebrate a $161,900 Resilient Communities Fund grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) which is being used to scale up their Technology Accessibility Program (TAP).
Said Crawford, "This generous OTF Resilient Communities Fund grant has allowed Acclaim Health to add a Technology Assistance Program, that will give isolated adults the opportunity to build their technological skills and stay socially connected."
During the event, Acclaim Health staff and volunteers also ran a tech café in which attendees could drop in to receive tech support and tips for how they can use technology to enrich their lives.
"We are in an increasingly digital world which is creating inequities for those who can’t access or use technology," added Patricia Blakeley, Director of Community Support Services at Acclaim Health.
"TAP provides the opportunity for older adults with limited or no knowledge of technology to learn in a way that is accessible, safe and is designed specifically for them," she continued.
Acclaim Health is a registered charity providing home health care, dementia care, caregiver support, social support, fall prevention, hospice and bereavement support, companionship, and palliative care education in Halton for over 90 years.
