Driving along Kerr Street, the summer planters were being cleared out, which will add to Oakville's Yard Waste Pick-Up. Yard waste pick-up started back in the Spring and will continue this Fall until the second week in December.
However, don't put out your yard waste until one day before your scheduled pick-up which is the same day as your garbage and recycling bins are collected.
How you need to prepare the material:
- Only use paper yard waste bags or open, reusable, rigid containers (no lid) labelled yard waste. If using a reusable, rigid container, you can drill holes in the bottom of the yard waste container for drainage.
- Containers may have a capacity up to 125 L (27 imperial gallons) and weigh no more than 23 kg (50 lbs).
- Labels must be placed on reusable containers to receive collection. You can order acceptable labels. Cardboard boxes, Blue Boxes, Green Carts, plastic bags, compostable bags or biodegradable bags are not acceptable even if they are labelled.
- Brush must be tied in bundles no larger than 2 m x 1 m (6 ft x 3 ft) wide, with branches a maximum of 7.5 cm (3 inches in diameter).
Acceptable items include:
- Leaves,
- Sticks & twigs,
- Tree trimmings,
- Decorative cornstalks
- Fallen fruit from trees, and
- Yard and garden trimmings
- Pumpkins
The following items are NOT acceptable:
- tree stumps
