Whether you're an experienced gardener or trying your hand at gardening for the first time, the Oakville Public Library (OPL) has everything you need to get started with seeds.
The OPL's Seed Library is back for 2025, offering Oakville residents the chance to grow their own plants and participate in a community seed exchange. Launched on March 3rd, the Seed Library allows Oakville residents to pick up up to three free seed packets, with options including basil, kale, snow peas, and marigolds.
Residents can start by visiting any OPL branch to choose their seeds and take them home to plant.
Growing and harvesting guides are also available to support gardeners.
OPL says that seeds are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so it’s recommended to check with a local branch to confirm availability. OPL says that once the plants grow, gardeners can harvest their seeds and donate them back to the library to help sustain the program for others.
Donation envelopes are available at customer service desks of any branch to help package seeds.
