GO Transit commuters in Oakville will now see trains every 15 minutes instead of every half-hour on weekends in the afternoon and evening.

The Ontario government has announced its most extensive GO train service expansion in over ten years. The expansion will introduce over 300 additional trips per week across several lines:

  • Lakeshore West (including Oakville station)
  • Lakeshore East
  • Milton
  • Kitchener
  • Stouffville

The changes begin next week on April 28, 2024, when weekend train service will increase from every 30 minutes to every 15 minutes in the afternoon and evening on the Lakeshore West and Lakeshore East lines between Oakville GO Station, Union Station and Durham College Oshawa GO Station.

Back in February, the Ontario government introduced One Fare, a program that Premier Doug Ford said saves riders an average of $1,600 annually by allowing them to transfer for free between the TTC and participating transit agencies in the Greater Toronto Area, including GO Transit. Oakville Transit is among the participating transit agencies.

Oakville Mayor Rob Burton expressed his thoughts on the expansion, saying, "Oakville is home to the busiest station in the GO Transit network outside of Union Station, and I know residents, commuters, students and visitors will benefit from GO Transit's expanding service on the Lakeshore West line."

"With the added bonus of complimentary Oakville Transit fares when connecting to or from GO service," he continued, "we're making travel easier, more convenient and more affordable for everyone."

The increased service times are set to take effect on Sunday, April 28, 2024.
