Holiday cheer shines through the rain at Bronte Village's tree lighting ceremony

The annual festivities included skating, live music, and donations for a local charity

A little drizzle couldn’t dampen the festive spirit in Bronte Village on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024, as families, friends, and neighbors came together to kick off the holiday season.

Bronte Market Square, nestled at 2445 Lakeshore Road West, hosted its annual tree lighting ceremony from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m, transforming the space into a winter wonderland filled with holiday cheer. The event featured everything from a meet-and-greet with Santa and Mrs. Claus to a synthetic skating rink, live caroling, and festive treats provided by local businesses.

The centrepiece of the evening came at 5:30 p.m, when the towering community tree was lit in a dazzling display of lights. Member of Provincial Parliament Stephen Crawford, Oakville Mayor Rob Burton, and Ward 1 Councillors Sean O’Meara and Jonathan McNeice, joined the crowd to mark the moment.

In the spirit of giving, attendees were encouraged to bring donations for Safetynet,, an Oakville-based charity founded by Bill Shields. The organization provides essential services and items to financially disadvantaged families, with requested donations including socks, gloves, hats, scarves, and men’s underwear.

This was the second tree lighting ceremony in Oakville this season, following the festivities at Towne Square on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024.
