The Oakville Fire Department was on site at the residence on January 8 to investigate the cause of the fire.

A late-night fire last night (Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025) was reported at a single-family bungalow in midtown Oakville.

The residential home is located near Sixth Line and Upper Middle Road, resulting in the loss of a family pet and leaving another missing.

According to Paul Boissonneault, Fire Chief of the Oakville Fire Department (OFD), crews arrived at the scene at approximately 11:30 p.m. to find visible flames and smoke. Seven fire apparatus and a Command Officer were dispatched.

Halton Regional Police, Halton Region Paramedics, Oakville Hydro, and Enbridge Gas were also at the scene to support, Boissonneault says.

The three occupants of the home reportedly self-evacuated before the fire department arrived and had the residents transported to the hospital, as a precaution to be evaluated for smoke inhalation.

At this time, the OFD has confirmed that there were no working smoke alarms in the residence. While the investigation is still ongoing, Deputy Fire Chief Kalpana Rajgopalan says the cause of the fire might be smoking related.

More to come on this developing story.
