The Blk Swan Kitchen Hub restaurants, located in Oakville and Burlington, will be providing free Thanksgiving dinners to people and families who cannot afford one today, Monday, Oct. 14, 2024, to share in the spirit of the holiday.
"We figured that we could help out some families or some people that don’t have tables at Thanksgiving," Frank McKinney, a spokesperson from the Blk Swan, said.
"Money is tight at times and we wanted to make sure that people had a full belly on Thanksgiving Day. If it’s something we can do, we’re going to try."
The restaurant, which has two locations in Burlington and a third here in Oakville, is accepting non-perishable food items to be donated to the Burlington Food Bank and is also taking donations for Burlington Helping Burlington, a local organization that connects businesses and charities with the community.
"People can swing by and bring something on the day," McKinney said. "If they’re coming for dinner or drinks, it would be great if they could bring something to donate. If they don’t want to do that, there’s a QR code that we set up where people can make a cash donation to Burlington Helping Burlington, which in turn will get them food to help them out."
The thanksgiving meal will be free for guests "while supplies last" between 2 and 5 p.m. today and costs $15 after 5 p.m. Officials say that for many, this will be their first time in a restaurant.
