The town of Oakville has declared a significant weather event, following yesterday's (Feb. 12, 2025) heavy snowfall that left approximately 20 cm of snow across Oakville and throughout Halton.

The declaration, made on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025, signals that road and sidewalk plowing operations may take longer than usual due to the high accumulation.

In a statement on social media, Oakville town staff acknowledged the challenges posed by the snow, noting that they are aware of large amounts of snow on roads, sidewalks, and driveway windrows.

Officials are asking for "residents’ patience as road-clearing efforts continue."

According to Oakville’s snow-clearing policy, major roads and primary bus routes are given priority during plowing operations, with residential streets, transit stops, and driveway windrows addressed afterward.

Typically, plowing begins after 2.5 cm of snow accumulates on primary roads and 7.5 cm on residential streets. Plowing on primary roadways can take up to 12-24 hours to complete after the snow stops falling, whereas residential areas and transit stops can take up to 24 to 48 hours "after the end of the storm."
