The Oakville Chinese Realtor Association (OCRA) and the Oakville Hospital Foundation (OHF) co-sponsored an annual charity dinner fundraiser in late November, raising $15,181.
This is the third consecutive year OCRA has initiated and organized an annual fundraising charity dinner for the OHF. In 2023 and 2022 respectively, OCRA previously raised $17,317 and $7,259.
The charity dinner fundraising event was held on November 21, 2024 at Pearl Oakville Chinese Cuisine. Nearly 115 people, including local Chinese realtors, bankers, lawyers, and two other non-Chinese realtors attended and generously supported the event.
This year, Oakville Mayor Rob Burton, Stephen Crawford, Member of Parliament of Ontario, and Scott Xie, Ward 7 councilor, also came to support the event. Each delivered a speech and thanked the OCRA for holding a fundraising event for OHF.
As in previous years, a bazaar was also held and the auction was a lively, active event that easily surpassed the original fundraising goal.
During the auction, Mayor Rob Burton and Stephen Crawford each contributed unique auction items to help raise funds for dinner: “Lunch with the Mayor” and “Lunch with MPP at the Queen's Park”.
The Big C Campaign is a trans-formative initiative by the OHF to raise $10 million by March 31, 2025, ensuring Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital can meet the growing demand for advanced cancer care in our region.
This charity event is designed to raise funds for OHF to meet Oakville Hospital's priority equipment. The funds will expand the hospital's cancer care clinic, add new chemotherapy spaces, and improve access to life-saving treatments.
"The incredible generosity displayed at this year's Oakville Chinese Realtor's annual fundraiser brings the Foundation one step closer to ensuring world-class cancer care is available close to home", said Jennifer McNally, Director of Community Engagement from OHF.
OCRA's slogan is Serving The Community, and Building Prosperity Together! Its leader said, “We will take root in Oakville, so the association's success is inseparable from the community's prosperity. At the same time, we will also pledge to raise an additional $50,000 for the hospital over the next five years!”
