Council will consider options to fill the vacant seat at its meeting on Tuesday April 3, 2018. Under the Municipal Act, Council must pass a motion to declare the seat to be vacant at its next meeting. An appointment to fill the vacancy must be made within 60 days of declaring the seat to be vacant.

The town’s procedure for filling vacancies on Town Council notes that between January 1 of a regular election year and 90 days prior to voting day, the vacant position will be filled by appointment only.

Councillor Roger Lapworth was first elected to Oakville Council in 2006. In addition to serving as Town Councillor for Ward 4, he has served on the boards of the Bronte BIA, the Oakville Humane Society and the Oakville Library during his tenure on Council.
