A fire that broke out yesterday evening at a home in Bronte is estimated to have caused $50,000 in damage, according to the Oakville Fire Department.

At approximately 7:23 p.m. on July 30, 2024, Oakville Fire responded to reports of a fire at 96 Nelson Street. Oakville Fire says a passer-by reported the fire, which originated on the rooftop patio area.

No one was home at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries to the public or firefighters.

Preliminary estimates suggest damages could reach up to $50,000, affecting the exterior wall and potentially causing water and smoke damage to the unit where the fire occurred and the units below.

According to Fire Chief Paul Boissonneault, the fire is not considered suspicious.

It is believed that outdoor materials burned on the rooftop patio. The Fire Prevention team is following up today, July 31, 2024, to finalize the cause.

Oakville Fire advises that no outdoor burning appliances are approved for use on a rooftop patio, and this is being investigated.
