The town of Oakville has issued their second weather statement this week, with several important safety and travel updates for today, Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025.

Staff for the town issued a "significant weather update" as of this afternoon, to remain in effect for the rest of today.

All registered town recreation and culture programs have been cancelled on Sunday, February 16, 2025, due to significant weather conditions. Participants enrolled in registered programs will automatically receive an account credit for the impacted classes.

Community centres including fitness centres, as well as arenas, remain open for facility rentals and drop-in programs. However, it is important to note that some facility rentals and drop-in programs may be impacted, and cancellations will be communicated directly to those involved.

The town says they are "committed to being flexible and will assist permit holders who request a cancellation due to weather conditions."

Snow plowing update

The town’s winter operations teams are "working hard to clear the roads safely and as quickly as possible."

More heavy snowfall is forecasted throughout the day and into the evening.

Given this is a significant weather event, the town says "crews must operate under adjusted standards for snow removal. It will take longer than usual as they navigate this substantial snowfall."

"Crews are working around the clock. Residents may notice increased noise as they complete this work, and we appreciate their patience and understanding."

Be a good neighbour - how residents can help:

  • Parked vehicles on the roads can slow down the snow removal process. Park your car off the road whenever possible to help snowplows easily clear the roads.
  • Vehicles parking on the street (with permit or without permit) may be ticketed if they are obstructing snow clearing operations.
  • Don’t shovel snow from your driveway onto the road.
  • If you can, help to clear the snow from the sidewalk in front of your home/business to help pedestrians.

"Residents are encouraged to dress warmly and allow extra travel time. Residents are asked to please allow crews to make it to your area before contacting or entering a request with ServiceOakville."

Visit oakville.ca and follow the town’s social media channels for ongoing snow-clearing updates, status of facility operations and programming, and more.

Oakville Transit information is available on oakvilletransit.ca. The large amount of snowfall may cause delays.
