Theatre Sheridan has revealed its program for the 2024/25 season, including four popular musicals and the premiere of five new works between now and April 2025.

Based at Sheridan's Trafalgar Campus here in Oakville, Theatre Sheridan is the facet of both the school's Honours Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance and Technical Production for the Performing Arts Industry programs that offers performances to the public.

Theatre Sheridan says this new 2024/25 season "highlights the creativity, innovation, and artistic growth of students", marked by "a suite of fan favourites, new works, and an exciting new partnership."

Four modern, popular musicals lead the new season, including Big Fish and a mystery show to be performed at Macdonald-Heaslip Hall in February 2025, followed by productions of Heathers: The Musical and Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 in April.

(While the mystery show was not available at a press time, multiple sources have confirmed to Oakville News the deferred announcement is due to a nearby professional production of the same title, and will likely be announced to the public within the coming weeks.)

"Our students have played a role in every stage of the planning process, and I can’t wait for audiences to experience the productions being presented as part of this year’s Theatre Sheridan season," says Chris Scholey, Theatre Sheridan producer.

"We’re incredibly grateful for the support of our patrons and their love of musical theatre. It’s through their generosity, that we’re able to nurture the next generation of theatre talent."

This season of productions is the first following the program's 50th anniversary, which was celebrated earlier this spring.

New this year, Sheridan has also partnered with Toronto-based Factory Theatre to present its early-stage musical development program, First Drafts.

Opening the season is its now fifth annual program First Drafts, showcasing new musicals to the public. The public performances of these new works begins tonight, October 9, 2025, at Toronto's Factory Theatre,

First Drafts is a series of musicals that aim to re-imagine, reconstitute and reanimate the Western musical theatre canon, making space for underrepresented voices and stories. These workshop presentations will premiere 45-minute excerpts of three never-before-seen scripts in their earliest stages of development.

Tickets are now on sale online for all performances.

Another initiative, The Musical Development Project, offers a unique glimpse into the creative process, showcasing collaborations between Sheridan students and artists from around the world. These shows will offer audiences the chance to see new musicals in their final stages of development.

Both First Drafts and Musical Development Project encapsulate Sheridan’s commitment to train exceptional musical theatre artists and support diverse work and artists in our community.

"Over the past five decades, Theatre Sheridan has earned a reputation for excellence in nurturing and showcasing the talents of aspiring theatre artists," according to a Theatre Sheridan press release. "The latest season continues to be based on a forward-thinking approach to the theatre canon."

In addition to the full lineup of musicals being presented by Theatre Sheridan, theatregoers are also invited to see Sheridan students perform in their end-of-year showcases, such as Pop Critiques, Writers' Showcase, and more.
