There's an ongoing road closure in southeast Oakville that will be in effect for nearly two months.

The closure, which began last Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, is located on Macdonald Road, between Reynolds Street and Allan Street. The portion of the road is expected to open up again on Dec. 20. Locals in the area will still have access.

The detour route will be along:

  • Reynolds Street
  • Spruce Street
  • Allan Street

According to the Town of Oakville, the closure is in place to install underground servicing for a Fernbrook Homes development. In 2022, the Town approved Fernbrook Homes to build 19 single detached homes and 16 townhouses in the area, where a former hospital used to be.

The partnership was the result of the Former Hospital Site Project, which proposed using the grounds to redevelop the area "to meet the needs of Oakville residents."

"We’re very excited about the possibilities this new community in beautiful, historic south east Oakville is going to offer homeowners," Mayor Rob Burton said of the partnership in 2022.
