When Joe Borg started his career in towing at just 15 years old, he never imagined that it would lead him to become a trailblazer in the industry with a brand like no other. Today, Borg’s company, The TowFather, is not just a towing service—it's a symbol of dedication, passion, and the unwavering belief that white-collar service can thrive in a blue-collar industry.
Joe’s story is a testament to resilience and the power of family support. With a childhood that saw him attend 9 different schools, it was clear that traditional education wasn’t his path. But when his parents gave him an ultimatum—drop out and work with his father—it became the beginning of a life-changing journey. Little did Joe know that this decision would lead him to an incredible career and a strong bond with his father that he cherishes to this day.
In the early days, Joe was not yet old enough to drive, but that didn’t stop him from learning the ropes. His siblings would drive him to the job sites where he learned the ins and outs of towing, from negotiating car purchases over the phone to the physical process of towing junk cars. Joe credits those first years for giving him the hands-on experience that laid the foundation for his future success. He recalls with fondness learning old-school towing techniques, using rubber slings, chains, and bumper lifts, which allowed him to build a deep understanding of the trade.
As time went on, Joe’s career evolved. He transitioned from Borg Towing Limited to The TowFather, a name that reflects his dedication to providing exceptional towing services. Embracing modern equipment like wheel lifts and flatbeds allowed Joe to expand his business to tow everything from cars and machinery to cargo and freight, continually refining his expertise and pushing the boundaries of what he could achieve.
But it wasn’t always a straight path. In 2014, Joe decided to venture into something new, launching Rapitow, a motor club inspired by the Uber concept. After selling his tow truck and spending two years in the office, Joe realized that his heart belonged on the road, behind the wheel. The experience, though not his lifelong calling, equipped him with invaluable business skills that would prove instrumental in building The TowFather into the premier towing service it is today.
A memorable chapter in his journey took place in December of 2019, when Joe, alongside his father, made the long drive from Winnipeg to bring home a new tow truck. As they traversed Michigan, they encountered a bizarre sight: deer scattered across the roads. Joe was convinced they’d hit one, but luck was on their side, and they made it home safely with their brand-new truck unscathed—a moment Joe will never forget.
Today, The TowFather stands as a testament to Joe’s unwavering commitment to his craft and his clients. His mission? To offer white-collar service in a blue-collar industry. For Joe, it’s not just about towing cars; it’s about providing peace of mind to his clients, particularly those with luxury vehicles, ensuring that every car is treated with the utmost care—like "China glass." With a reputation for reliability, professionalism, and personalized service, The Tow Father has become a trusted name for anyone in need of expert towing.
Joe Borg’s journey is one of hard work, passion, and an undying commitment to excellence. From his humble beginnings to the success he enjoys today, he is proof that no dream is too big when you have the drive to succeed.
