Three projects placed first in the world in their respective categories at the 2024 International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Los Angeles - including two young scientists from Oakville.
Anthony Efthimiadis from Oakville was tops in robotics and intelligent machines, with his project "Instant Skin Cancer Diagnosis: AI Hybrid Neural Networks with Precise Evolution Tracking."
Alia Wahban, also from Oakville, came first in energy: sustainable materials and design and Cloe Rae and Sophie Rose Filion of Welland won in embedded systems.
In addition, Canadian entries had two second-place finishes: one third, one fourth and four special awards.
Oakville News first reported on Efthimiadis' project back in March, when he won second place at the BASEF fair in Hamilton.

Congratulations to the students!
