The Halton District School Board, in partnership with Special Olympics Ontario (SOO), will host a Sports Festival on Feb. 4, 5 and 6 from 9:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Milton Velodrome (2015 Pan Am Blvd, Milton) for hundreds of HDSB elementary students with special education needs.
Organized by SOO, this event is intended to introduce students and their families to the Special Olympics. It is designed as a fun, non-competitive event designed to provide young athletes with an intellectual/physical disability an entry point to sport and physical activity. It enables communities to support physical literacy development as well as community program development.
Quotes
“We are very proud and excited to host the Sports Festival event for more than 260 elementary students with special education needs,” says Colette Ruddock, Superintendent of Education (Special Education Services). “The Halton District School Boards values the talents and abilities of all students and we look forward to the Sports Festival providing an opportunity to showcase our students’ skills. We fully support events like this that can bring together students for a day of accomplishment, camaraderie and a lot of fun. It’s crucial that students feel connected to their peers, and learn and play in safe and engaging environments. It’s wonderful to see how the Sports Festival brings to life the HDSB’s 2024-2028 Multi-Year Strategic Plan, including the ‘Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion’ commitment. We can’t wait to cheer on our amazing students during the SOO Sports Festival.”
HDSB 2024-2028 Multi-Year Plan
The 2024-2028 Multi-Year Strategic Plan sets direction and prioritizes the collective actions of all students, staff, families and community members. This plan ensures our efforts as an organization are aligned and coordinated to support more than 67,000 students, 11,000 staff and the broader HDSB community. The six commitments identified in this four-year plan intersect and overlap to ensure that we take a cohesive approach to fulfilling its objectives.
