One of Oakville's long rising hockey stars will see a dream come true: after a long year of preparation, Oakville’s Luke Misa was chosen in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft this weekend.

Misa was selected 150th overall by the Calgary Flames, in the fifth round of the draft.

"I’m so excited," said Misa when he spoke to local media at the NHL Draft in Las Vegas. "It’s an honour to get drafted by the Flames, and to get to stay inside of Canada too is pretty cool."

Misa produced 26 goals and 55 assists this past season for a total of 81 points with the Mississauga Steelheads. He also led the team in scoring.

Due to these numbers, he was projected to be picked somewhere in the range of 40-70 by many different outlets. But due to Misa’s 5' 10" stature, and how his production tailed off towards the end of the season, many teams passed on him and he wasn’t selected until the fifth round.

The Calgary Flames and their staff, led by former NHL player Craig Conroy, decided to take a chance on Misa by selecting him near the end.

Now that the draft has concluded, it will be on Luke to continue to put in the work so that he can reach the next goal in his NHL journey which would be signing his first professional contract.

Congratulations Luke on your new team!
