A period of very cold wind chills is expected.
Wind chill values of minus 30 or below are occurring this morning.
Wind chills will moderate during daytime hours today.
Tonight wind chills are expected to be slightly warmer, however they will still be quite low, with values in the minus 22 to minus 27 range expected.
It is going to get chilly tonight. Environment Canada issued an Extreme Cold Warning on Wednesday, December 27-2017 at 3:16 PM.
This warning will last through tonight.
According to the Weather Network a polar vortex is pushing Arctic air into Oakville. This evening will be particularly brutal as temperatures drop down to minus 20 and feel like minus 28. However, wind gusts will make it feel even colder.
So if you are going to be driving, remember to have your safety gear in place and to dress appropriate - even if you are just going a few kilometres. Should your car break down, call for help.
This type of weather is particularly hard on the elderly, the young and individuals with breathing conditions. Bundle up and be safe.

Wind chills will moderate during daytime hours Thursday. However, wind chill values near minus 30 or below are expected in some areas again on Thursday night.
Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.
Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
