At 6:00 PM on Tuesday, April 2nd Halton Emergency Services responded to a fire  at the Jean and Howard Caine Apartments which are located at 259 Robinson Street. Unfortunately, the fire resulted in the death of an elderly woman.

Trafalgar Road and Robinson Street around the fire were immediately closed, and were reopened several hours later.

The Oakville Fire Department responded quickly. The fire occurred on the second floor and was contained to a single unit. The necessary floors of building were cleared. Oakville Transit provided shelter for these residents and visitors.

The apartment was the home of a single elderly woman. She sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the fire. The fire did not result in the harm of any of the other residents or their visitors.

She was transported to the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Her injures were too much for her system, and she later passed. Her identity is being with held until the family is notified.

It is requested that community refrains from naming the deceased on social media, since that decision should be made by the family.

The Oakville Fire Department will now be investigating the cause of the fire, and issued the following statement on Twitter.

"On behalf of all Oakville Fire staff, our thoughts are with the family of the occupant of this tragic fire."
