Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain weather alert for Oakville. Sorry we are still not out of the woods yet.

Freezing rain is expected to affect parts of Southern Ontario as a warm front approaches from the south tonight and Wednesday. With cold air in place and temperatures overnight and Wednesday morning expected to dip to near or slightly below zero, conditions will be favourable for freezing rain to develop in many areas.

The threat of more significant freezing rain is greatest over the higher ground north and west of the Greater Toronto Area as temperatures there will likely remain stuck at just below freezing overnight and Wednesday morning, resulting in the potential for several hours of freezing rain. Toronto will be near the boundary between the rain and freezing rain, with primarily rain near the lake shore and freezing rain becoming more of an issue as one heads inland from Lake Ontario to the suburbs.

Travelling conditions are expected to deteriorate Wednesday as untreated surfaces may become icy and slippery.

Precipitation will turn over to all rain later on Wednesday as the warm front gets closer and temperatures slowly inch to a few degrees above freezing.

Freezing rain warnings may be required as this event draws closer.
