New pilot parking program coming to Bronte Village This June, the Town of Oakville will launch a two-year pilot commercial parking program in Bronte Village to address business and community concerns about the availability of parking in the area.
During the pilot program,paidparking will be available alongsideBronte storefronts on main and secondary streets, as well as at town-owned spaces at Bronte Village Mall. Parking will be controlled with meters, monthly permits and the Honk mobile payment app.
“The Bronte pilot parking program will support a dynamic and thriving Bronte Village,” Mayor Burton said. “Offering and enforcing paid parking options will help ensure spaces are available for customers, visitors and residents of Bronte to enjoy the many shops, restaurants and activities in the area.”
The town already manages commercial parking operations in Downtown Oakville and Kerr Village. Charging for parking in commercial areas is a common way to promote turnover and manage demand. Rates, fees, durations and hours of operation in Bronte Village will be consistent with those in other commercial districts within Oakville.
Council requested that staff implement a pilot commercial parking program in Bronte after residents, business owners and commercial property owners raised concerns that visitors to the area were parking for extended periods of time in the commercial district, leaving limited spaces for shoppers to park.
In addition to paid parking, two-hour parking limits will be in effect on residential streets adjacent to the Bronte Village commercial shopping area.
The town is holding an open house on Wednesday, May 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Walton Memorial Church where the community can drop in to learn more about the project.
