On Friday, November 17, 2017 at approximately 2:35 pm, Halton Regional Police Services responded to a call regarding a collision between a dump truck and a man on Ford Drive north of Kingsway Drive. The collision occurred on the west side of the community of Clearview in Oakville, Ontario.
Initial reports were that a male had been struck by a dump truck. First responders arrived on scene and determined that the male was deceased. Due to the nature of the incident, the Halton Regional Police Collision Reconstruction Unit attended the scene. Also the Ministry of Labour was notified of the incident and their investigator attended the scene. Within three weeks the family of the deceased will receive a written report by the MOL Investigator.
At the time of the incident, Ford Drive was in the process of being repaved. The deceased male and the involved dump truck were both engaged in construction related activity at the site. The construction worker was a 32 years old resident of Waterloo Region and the dump truck was driven by a 49 year old resident of Peel Region.
According to the Ministry of Labour's Fatalities and Immediate Response (F.A.I.R.), "once the investigation is complete, MOL staff will review the investigation report. If prosecution for violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act is warranted, charges will be laid within one year of the date of the offence."
The police have not released the name of the deceased man or the driver at this time.
This incident remains under investigation by Halton Regional Police Services and the Ministry of Labour.
