The Oakville Blades and Burlington Cougars will head into game three tied at one apiece after the Cougars took the 3-2 overtime victory on Saturday.

The Cougars wanted to steal a victory away from the Blades to avoid being down two games to none heading into their three-game home stand. At 5:33, they got off to a strong start after Anthony Baxter’s point shot was tipped by Michael Boushy, who beat Brendan McGlynn to make it 1-0 Burlington.

The Blades thought they were going to head into the third period down a goal, but that all changed with 1:27 left in the second. Sal Filice did exactly what he was brought in to do by sending a hard shot towards the net, and Christian Rajic was there to tip in the flying disk to make it 1-1 to end the middle frame.

Ryan Foss has been good for a point in every game of the playoffs, and he didn’t want to stop on Saturday. Daniel Jelic, who also was having a strong game, sent a saucer pass in front of the net to Foss. The former OHLer made no mistake with the shot, banking his attempt off a defenceman’s skate in front to make it 2-1 Blades.

The Blades tried their best to keep the game from going to overtime, but with 1:03 left in regulation, the Cougars tied it up. Seconds after Max Balinson won the faceoff, Matt Watson received the pass and beat Brendan McGlynn to tie the game up, forcing the contest into overtime.

Unfortunately for the Blades, the game didn’t end up in their favour. With just under four minutes complete in the extra frame, Watson scored his second goal of the game with a hard shot, blowing past McGlynn and in for the 3-2 victory.

Game three will take place on Monday night at 7:30 PM at Appleby Arena in Burlington. Let’s show the Cougars who have the best fans!
