Registration is now open for Home Suite Hope’s 3rd Annual Share the Hope Walk on Sunday, May 1 at  stunning lakeside Coronation Park in West Oakville.

Homelessness is often overlooked in the assumed affluence of the Halton region, leaving families facing it invisible to the greater public. Share the Hope Walk encourages community members in Halton to come out and support their neighbours in need, and help break the cycle of poverty.

“Our goal is to help low-income single parents end the cycle of poverty,” said Michelle Pommells, Home Suite Hope president and CEO. “By walking in a large loop around downtown Oakville, walkers have a first-rate opportunity to visualize the cyclical nature of this complex issue. They are able to help fellow their neighbours and see struggles through their eyes.”

Registration is $25, but the fee is waived if walkers raise $100 or more. Funds raised go directly towards education and housing for low-income single-parent families facing homelessness, as well as towards nutrition, employment readiness, positive parenting, and budgeting and financial literacy skills development.

Beginning at 12 p.m. (walk starts at 1 p.m.), the event promises fun for the whole family. There’ll be live performances by Toronto-based singer/songwriter Julie Neff and exciting activities including a Kids Zone with children’s face painting, craft making, and a ‘dress-up’ selfie booth. MC Eric Johnston, the actor who plays Lord Splatalot, will lead the event with Sweatshop Union kicking off a lively warm-up for walkers.

Food and beverages will be served, and team prizes and awards will be given out at the end of the walk.

The Share the Hope Walk is an annual event that raises funds for Home Suite Hope’s programs. Walkers begin and end at Coronation Park, travelling through Oakville’s scenic lakeside, from 1-3 p.m. Participants are welcome to run the 5K, and can register as a team or as individuals online at www.homesuitehope.org by selecting ‘Register Now’, or by emailing [email protected].
