A 26-year-old man was arrested following a pursuit and crash that took place yesterday morning in Oakville.

According to Halton Police, officers responded to a vehicle theft at approximately 8 a.m, near the area of Sixth Line and Upper Middle Road.

Police say that an unoccupied vehicle was stolen from a residence driveway while it was running and warming up. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), who has invoked mandate on this case, identify the stolen vehicle as a Kia Sedona.

The suspect vehicle (which the SIU describes as a GMC Hummer) and stolen vehicle then reportedly fled the residential area.

The SIU says Halton Police located both vehicles at Upper Middle Road and Trafalgar Road and attempted to stop them. Following a pursuit, police say that the suspect vehicle was located at the intersection of Winston Churchill Boulevard and Lakeshore Road East, having collided with a diesel fuel tractor trailer.

A lone male occupant was reportedly found inside the vehicle and was arrested.

As a result the man has been charged with the following: Theft of Motor Vehicle, two counts of Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Flight from Peace Officer.

The suspect, 26, was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries, the SIU confirms.

Police say the accused has been held on bail and that the stolen vehicle is still missing. The investigation is currently ongoing under the SIU's jurisdiction.

The SIU encourages those who have information, including photos and videos, to contact the lead investigator at at 1-800-787-8529 or online.
