Oakville News received the following letter about ticketing the owners of dogs at Confederation Park.
I happened to be in the park today and noticed for the first time ever, a private security guard ticketing a couple in the park, who had a dog off leash swimming in the lake.
I've been down there numerous times and have seen dogs and owners playing in the water. In fact I watched a woman playing with her dog, throwing a ball into the lake, for an hour, and have seen her there numerous times. In fact, the couple, who were ticketed saw the woman, that's why they took the leash off the dog in the first place. They even asked if anyone minded.
I understand, we must follow rules, but it seems as though the ticketing is a bit much.
They have a policy at Burlington Beach, where no dogs are allowed on the beach period, and I've encountered many people with their animals on the beach, but have yet to see a bylaw officer ticket anyone. My main point is, I don't believe this was a bylaw officer, he was dressed in what appeared to be a private security firm uniform, (all black,) and he seemed a bit overly antagonistic, considering his job.
I believe that it's a park paid for by our taxes, and everyone should be allowed to enjoy it, without being made to feel uncomfortable or unwelcome.
Let's try to be a little more friendly and inclusive. Coronation Park is there for everyone to share. Not just the one per cent.
