The town of Oakville is considering allowing more sports on town-owned roads and streets, and has begun reaching out to residents to see what they think.

In a statement released today, March 17, 2025, Oakville town staff they "will be developing new guidelines supporting safe and responsible sports activities on town-owned streets."

Staff say they are "looking for public input to help create a thoughtful approach about the type of sports, along with where and when they will be allowed."

Recognizing the health and social benefits of outdoor, active play, Town Council voted in September 2024 to lift the existing ban on sports activities from town streets.

The town is in the process of preparing detailed guidelines that will balance health benefits while prioritizing safety for residents, pedestrians and vehicle passengers.

An online survey is currently available at this link here until April 7, 2025 for public feedback.

All residents are encouraged to provide in-person input at the following community centres. Input from residents can be given to the project staff, or through paper formats of the survey that will be available at three locations:

  • Monday, March 24 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, 3070 Neyagawa Boulevard
  • Tuesday, March 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre, 2302 Bridge Road
  • Wednesday, March 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sir John Colborne Recreation Centre for Seniors, 1565 Old Lakeshore Road

All input given by residents of Oakville will be considered by the town before the draft guidelines are brought forward to Council for approval in June 2025.
