Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reporting further details in an Oakville road accident over the weekend that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

The sudden death, involving both a pedestrian and a passenger vehicle, resulted in the closure of the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) for most of the day on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., the OPP, Burlington Detachment, responded to numerous calls reporting a serious collision involving a pedestrian and a passenger vehicle which occurred on the QEW Fort Eire bound lanes at Royal Windsor Drive here in Oakville.

Officers arrived and provided life-saving measures to the pedestrian who had been struck. Sadly, the pedestrian, a 37-year-old female from Toronto, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Members of the Highway Safety Division (HSD) Traffic Support Unit (TSU) attended the scene and assisted with the investigation.

All lanes, Fort Erie bound, were closed to facilitate the investigation and clean-up effort. The Fort Erie bound lanes were re-opened approximately 7 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials are asking for witnesses who may have dashcam footage, to call the OPP Burlington Detachment at 1-888-310-1122 and refer to incident number E241678648.
